Mary Ellen Carter is one of Bellingham's best-known food enthusiasts and a strong advocate of returning to the table to enjoy good food. Opening a café and catering company in the 1980s, Mary Ellen started to explore global cuisine and learned the subtle similarities in different cultures; how food plays an important part in people's traditions as well as the complex relationship people have with food.
Mary Ellen helped establish a local convivium of Slow Food, a worldwide organization committed to preserving food and culture based on the values of community and sustainability.
